The Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome to London! Today you will arrive at Heathrow airport and be transferred to Chipping Camden in the Cotswolds where we will have dinner together, make our way to the inn (for—hopefully—a good night’s sleep!) before starting our walk the next day. Our group dinner will be the perfect time to get to know one another before beginning our walk! The inn on our first evening will most likely be the Noel Arms.
Day 2: Walk from Chipping Camden to Stanton (10.5 miles). On this morning, we will have breakfast at the inn and then walk to the quaint little village of Stanton. Because Stanton has limited sleeping, we will take the short taxi-ride back to Chipping Camden to stay in the same inn as the previous evening.
Day 3: Walk from Stanton to Winchcombe (7.5 miles). After breakfast, a taxi will return us to the spot we stopped the previous day in Stanton. Our shorter walk to Winchcombe can be extended by a five mile circular walk through Sudeley Valley and to the historic Sudeley Castle. This castle remains the only private castle in England with a queen buried on its grounds—Katherine Parr, the last wife of Henry VIII—who lies in St. Mary's Chapel. We will then taxi to Cheltenham where we'll stay for the evening, most likely at The George Hotel.
Day 4: Walk from Winchcombe to Dowdeswell (11 miles). After breakfast in Cheltenham, we will taxi back to Winchcombe to continue our walk, making our way to Dowdeswell. After our arrival in town, we will eventually take a taxi back to The George Hotel in Cheltenham, where we stayed the previous evening.
Day 5: Walk from Dowdeswell to Birdlip (10 miles). We will have breakfast at our inn and then taxi back to Dowdeswell to continue our walk, making our way to Birdlip along ridges and through beech forests. After arriving in Birdlip, we will taxi to Painswick, where we will most likely stay at the Falcon Inn for the evening.
Day 6: Taxi to Birdlip and walk to Painswick (7 miles). On this day, we will have breakfast in Painswick, before taxiing back to Birdlip, so we can make the scenic walk to Painswick. We will sleep in the same inn as the previous night.
Day 7: Taxi from Painswick to Bath. Congrats! You finished the northern half (and nearly 50 miles!) of the Cotswold Way! After breakfast we will taxi to Bath to enjoy this beautiful historic city, known for its honey-colored Georgian architecture and Roman heritage. The city is famous for its ancient Roman Baths, and for being the setting of various Jane Austen novels; we will have the option to do a two-hour tour of Bath before having the rest of the day to explore. We will have a group dinner and then stay, most likely, at the Queensberry Hotel for the night.
Day 8: After breakfast, we will transfer to Heathrow to say our goodbyes and make our departing flights.
